God: An Autobiography | About

The true story of philosopher Dr. Jerry L. Martin and his conversations with God. Dr. Jerry L. Martin was a lifelong agnostic. But one day, he had occasion to pray. To his vast surprise. God answered- in words. Being a philosopher, God had a lot to tell him.

Supported by a global audience and diverse community of seekers, the podcast launched the dramatic adaptation with actor Scott Langdon, producing a continued discussion on spiritual development and God beyond religion, including interviews, dialogues, reactions, and special episodes.

The Book

Answers to love and loss, happiness and suffering, good and evil, death and the afterlife, and the world’s religions are found in the ways God communicates with us. Philosopher and agnostic Dr. Jerry L. Martin records and shares his mind-opening conversations with God with a message of living in spiritual harmony.

The Author

Dr. Martin served as head of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the University of Colorado philosophy department, is the founding chairman of the Theology Without Walls group at AAR, and editor of Theology Without Walls: The Transreligious Imperative. Dr. Martin's work has prepared him to become a serious reporter of God's narrative, experiences, evolution, and autobiography. In addition to scholarly publications, Dr. Martin has testified before Congress on educational policy, appeared on “World News Tonight,” and other television news programs.

A NOTE FROM JERRY:

Although there is a bit of my personal story here, the substance is God’s story, as I received it in prayer.  Even the title was given to me in prayer.  What I was told ranged far beyond anything I ever would have imagined on my own. I do not feel like a prophet, and am certainly not a saint, so one day I asked what my role was.  The answer:  to be “a serious reporter of what you are told when you pray.”  That is what I have done with the book to start a conversation about God. My wife, Abigail, is also a former philosophy professor.  She has three books to her credit, published under her maiden name, Rosenthal.  You will meet her in chapter one.

I am not the only person who hears from God.  We all do, often in ways we do not realize.  I hope you will share with us your own moments of divine presence.
