SPECIAL GUEST | JOHAN HERRENBERG

Johannes Zacheüs (Johan) Herrenberg was born in Amsterdam in 1961, to a father from the former Dutch colony of Suriname and a Dutch mother. From age seven three subjects took hold of him: language, propaganda, and the Shoah. The only things he voraciously read in those early years were comics and a children's Bible. His intellectual life started in earnest after he was introduced to Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, in 1973, age twelve.

In the past fifty years, along a very winding road, he has turned into a writer of innovative prose, publishing two volumes of an ambitious trilogy in 2018 and 2023 respectively, hoping to cap the whole edifice in 2026. Music, literature, philosophy, history, religion, and politics are the things he has been preoccupied with most intensively, and outside academia. In 2014 he converted to Catholicism, which in its combination of the physical and spiritual is aiding him in achieving his central life's goal: wholeness as man and artist in a mad and broken world.

SPECIAL GUEST | DR. ABIGAIL L. ROSENTHAL

Dr. Abigail L. Rosenthal is a distinguished philosopher, educator and author of the Pulitzer-nominated book "A Good Look At Evil."

"Proposes a new way of understanding one of the oldest mysteries- the nature of evil." (Adam Kirsch)

Her forthcoming work, "Confessions of a Young Philosopher," with illustrations, follows the tradition of Augustine and Rousseau, but from a woman's perspective.

"Since the Enlightenment, a number of people have tried to tell the truth about their own lives, Stendahl, Boswell, Rousseau... Augustine. Are there other women who have tried to do the same?... I think that what you have done is a most splendid and courageous addition to the literature of trying to tell the truth about oneself." (David Armstrong)

Through her platform, "Dear Abbie: The Non-Advice Column," Abigail engages her audience with thought-provoking blogs and podcasts, discussing among other things the fascinating intricacies of women's lives and shedding light on contemporary experience.

Her philosophical and other articles span a wide range of topics. She is also the editor of "The Consolations of Philosophy: Hobbes's Secret; Spinoza's Way" by Henry M. Rosenthal, her late father.

Despite the extraordinary nature of this experience, Abigail's steadfast support and grounded approach to life shine through. In this captivating conversation, they explore encounters with God, prayer, divine communication, and religious renewal, offering personal experiences and perspectives on faith.

Drawing from her Jewish heritage, Abigail demystifies the search for God and advocates for approaching the divine straightforwardly, with simplicity, honesty, and openness. Jerry shares intellectually informed insights into God's story and seeing things from God's side. Together, they discuss recognizing one's calling, embracing divine directives, and the power of empathy in understanding the divine through the narratives of real life.
